Features

For Interior Use Only. Not For Use On Floors.
Cabot® Premium Wood Finish has been named Product of the Year by the Consumer Survey of Product Innovation. Our combined water-based stain + sealer was selected in a TNS survey of over 45,000 consumers as the leading product innovation for Home Improvement in 2014.

Cabot® Premium Wood Finish combines beautiful color and a durable finish in one simple and time-saving product. The water-based H2Oil™ formula provides the best characteristics of oil — warm appearance, smooth application, flawless blotch-free coverage — as well as easy soap and water cleanup. No wood conditioner or top coat is needed. Excellent for use on most types of bare or previously stained interior wood surfaces, including doors, woodwork, wood furniture, and cabinets.

Coverage

One quart covers up to 100-125 sq. ft. (9.3-11.6 m²) depending upon surface porosity. Do not thin.

Where to Use

Excellent for use on most types of bare or previously stained interior wood surfaces, including doors, woodwork, wood furniture, and cabinets. Not for use on floors.

Preparing Your Surfaces

General: Clean and allow surface to dry thoroughly, removing all dirt, dust, wax and wood marks. Wood surfaces must be clean, free of sanding dust, wax, grease, old finishes, mildew stains or other contaminants. Surfaces must be absolutely dry. Do not use steel wool in surface preparation. Do not apply over lacquer or shellac.
Previously Finished Wood: If applying on previously stained wood, test first on a hidden piece of wood to be sure the final effect is satisfactory. If needed, remove existing paint and varnish with sandpaper or paint and varnish remover, following manufacturer's instructions and safety precautions. On previously clear-coated surfaces make sure surface is in sound condition and Cabot Premium Wood Finish is compatible with surface. Lightly sand existing surface before applying first coat.
Bare Wood: Sand bare wood with sand paper until smooth. Remove sanding dust and dirt with dry cloth such as a tack cloth. Do not use steel wool in surface preparation.

Application

DO NOT SHAKE! Stir well before using.
Apply a thin, uniform coat using a clean, dry brush. For best results, use a high quality nylon or polyester brush. Allow to dry for 2 ½ hours. Sand very lightly with 600 grit sandpaper to smooth wood grain. Remove sanding dust with tack cloth and apply a second thin coat. For full color and maximum durability, apply 2 or more coats. For a muted, distressed look apply 1 coat. For added gloss and protection, finish with a coat of Cabot Premium Wood Finish in Clear/Tint Base or Cabot Waterborne Polyurethane.

For Best Results

Use a good quality brush for application. Unlike traditional oil-based "rubbing" stains, Cabot Premium Wood Finish is designed to be applied by brush alone. Using a rag or a rubbing motion will result in poor color and finish.
Add at least 2 coats, maybe more. More coats give you more color and more dimension.
Dry each coat completely. Let each coat dry for the full 2 ½ hours before reapplying, so that additional coats will cure and harden properly.
